Excel Populate for Oscommerce - attributes for new products?

I have installed the Excel Populate module for Oscommerce and everything looks to be working fine, except for the product attributes import. How do I add attributes to a newly added product or an existing product that does not have attributes?

I assumed that with a product that exists but does not have any attributes I could just add the product id to the attributes id column and it will be picked up. However, after testing this it seems that this is just ignored and no attributes are added for that product.

In addition to this, what do you do with a product that has just been added to the excel doc which does not have a product id yet? The documentation suggests that you just add the relevant price values to each of the attribute columns for that product, but how can you do this if the product does not exist in this table?

I really hope I am missing something simple here and that there is an easy way to resolve this problem. Any help would be much appreciated!
